44lb 2oz Trophy Striper from Eufaula Dam

Today was one of those days you waited a life time for. I set out with Dennis and Traci Hoyle of Nebraska who drove to Oklahoma for a vacation and a little Striper fishing. Dennis had been doing his research on the Internet and found out that a 43lb striper was caught below Eufaula dam about 3 weeks ago. This year has been one of the best years for large stripers in along time. But today for some reason was going to be different. As we loaded our gear into the boat before day light I noticed the water was not running from the dam. Thinking to myself this is not good. We ventured out and got set up for a days fishing. After about 2 hours with not a bite and still no water. I decided to do something a little different. I pulled out the big rods and set them up for topwater fishing with live bait. On the first case I was showing the Hoyles how to use the rods and how to fish this way using live bait. As I handed the rod to Traci I saw a Hugh fish explode and take our bait. I told her to set the hook and with the drag screaming the fight was on. After a few seconds Traci decided to give the rod to her husband Dennis after a good 5 minute battle I scooped the huge fish up in the landing net. To all of our surprise we couldn't believe how big the fish was. J. B. Bennett Of Okmulgee a long time striper guide watched us as we landed the fish. He was in the boat next to us. He said it was one of the largest stripers he has ever seen and wanted pictures to run in this weeks Outdoor page that he writes for. After weighing the fish on the boat it was some were between 43 and 45lbs. After our trip we went and found a scale at a local store. The fish weighed in at 44Lbs 2 oz at M&M Grocery In Pourm Landing. This is truly an outstanding Fish. Till next time, Good Fishing from your Outdoor Adventure Guide, Larry
